BELLEFONTE, PA -- A State College man who lost his right eye in a construction accident was awarded $250,000 by a jury Tuesday evening.

Roger M. Prior, of 2300 Jalice Circle, sued Kennametal Inc., a Latrobe company that manufactures replacement "teeth" for construction equipment. On May 24, 2000, Prior was replacing teeth on a piece of equipment that removed roadway surfaces for paving when a piece of metal dislodged from a replacement tooth and struck him in the eye, the suit claims. Prior was wearing safety goggles and following proper procedures in installing the tooth at the time, according to his lawyer.

Two of Prior's coworkers at the Pleasant Gap company were also injured that week while installing replacement teeth manufactured by Kennametal Inc., the suite claimed.

Kennametal's lawyers denied the allegations.
